Concluding Remark: the die-hard Cambodia

It is quite remarkable that, during the past three hundreds years, Cambodia survived multiple attempts by neighbors, foreigners, and even her own people to obliterating her national identity and/or wiping her out of the map. Sometimes labeled unjustly as barbaric, Cambodia managed to escape extinction and hold on to part of her land, cherished traditions, and social fabrics.

Although it may be true that the French or some good Cambodian kings have prevented Cambodia from extinction in the 19th century, and the Vietnamese have rescued her from the Khmer Rouge, one thing is certain: unlike her former neighbor Champa, God did not allow her to perish. We, Cambodians who have found new lives in Christ through God’s goodness and grace, believe that He has a plan for Cambodia and a redemptive purpose for her people. The Cambodian people ought to be grateful that their nation still exists. Surely, there are many good reasons for prayer, hope, and longing for a brighter Cambodia in the days ahead.
